Project Info
Odysseus is a project created in my first year of MMI as part of a game jam on the theme “Fait vriller” (“Drive You Crazy”). The goal was to design, in just a few days, a first playable video game while exploring the different aspects of its creation: narrative design, visual and sound atmosphere, and code development.
You wake up amnesiac in the command room of the Odysseus submarine. The crew has disappeared, strange events seem to have occurred, and beware the danger might still be lurking. This point & click psychological horror captures the loss of bearings that leads to paranoia and madness, embodying the “Drive You Crazy” theme.
While coursework and examples focused on platformers, we chose to go against the grain to experiment with narrative point & click. Heavily inspired by indie games in the genre like Rusty Lake, Tick Tock: A Tale for Two, The Past Within, The Cave... we created a unique universe through both the chosen art direction and sound effects specifically designed for the game.
For this project, I handled narrative design as well as technical development: inventory management to collect and combine interactive objects, an evolving universe that unlocks progressively, and puzzle game design based on subtle environmental interactions...
Limited by the game jam timeframe, numerous improvements remain to be implemented.
